Ministry discusses agreement on reverse logistics

The Ministry of Environment (MMA) invited associations to discuss the 2nd phase of the Sectorial Agreement on Reverse Logistics for General Packaging.

With the agreement, which was signed in November 2015, manufacturers, importers, traders and distributors are committed to working together to ensure the environmentally appropriate disposal of the packaging that they place on the market.

The meeting was held on Tuesday (16/01) in Brasilia, with the participation of representatives of the Packaging Coalition, an initiative of 22 organizations that bring together hundreds of companies. Reverse logistics is an instrument of economic development foreseen in the National Solid Waste Policy (Law 12,305 of 2010).

COOPERATIVES

On the results of the first phase, the participants highlighted the support to the collectors’ cooperatives, which are increasing the sorting capacity with improvements in equipment, training and formalization of several cooperatives.

“The investment of the Coalition in cooperatives is undeniable, and has been fundamental. We perceive the progress that has been made in the organization of collectors,” said Dione Manetti, the representative of the National Association of Collectors of Recyclable Materials (ANCAT).

For the second phase, the participants highlighted the need to strengthen communication with society and interaction with municipalities. A group will be formed to establish the strategies of strengthening ties with the municipalities.

Zilda Veloso, the Director of Environmental Quality and Waste Management, mentioned the MMA’s initiative to create a forum for discussing the National Solid Waste Policy with state authorities, in which one of the points would be the monitoring and control of reverse logistics systems.

COMPANIES

The representative of the Association for Reverse Logistics of Packaging (Aslore), Ailton Luiz Storolli, reported that the improvements in the implementation of reverse logistics are identified each semester. “We are standardizing actions, and the demand for the association is only growing. The companies do not refrain from fulfilling the tasks,” he said. The Aslore is an arm of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Fiergs) and brings together about 60 companies.
