8.1 Objective

8.1.1 This Regulatory Standard (NR) establishes requirements that shall be met in buildings to ensure the safety and comfort of workers.

8.2 Scope

8.2.1 The preventive measures specified in this standard apply to buildings in which work activities are performed.

8.3 Health and safety requirements

8.3.1 Workplaces shall have floor-to-ceiling heights and ceiling heights in accordance with local building codes or municipal ordinances, taking into account the provisions of official technical standards and the safety, comfort and health conditions specified in regulatory standards.

8.3.2 Circulation

8.3.2.1 Workplace floors shall have no protrusions or depressions that could impede the movement of people or materials.

8.3.2.2 Openings in floors and walls shall be guarded to prevent persons or objects from falling through.

8.3.2.3 Floors, fixed stairs and ramps shall be designed, constructed and maintained to withstand the permanent and moving loads for which they are intended, in accordance with official technical standards.

8.3.2.4 Non-slip materials or systems shall be used on floors, fixed stairs, ramps, corridors and passageways in workplaces where there is a risk of slipping.

8.3.2.5 Floors above ground level shall be protected against the fall of persons or objects in accordance with local legislation and official technical standards, taking into account safety and comfort conditions.

8.3.3 Weather protection

8.3.3.1 Exterior parts, as well as all those separating independent units of a building, even if they are not part of its structure, shall comply with official technical standards regarding fire resistance, thermal insulation, acoustic insulation and conditioning, structural strength and watertightness.

8.3.3.2 Workplace floors and walls shall, where appropriate, be and protected against moisture.

8.3.3.3 Workplace roofs shall be protected against rain.

8.3.3.4 Workplace buildings shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of the environment to avoid excessive sunlight or lack of sunlight.
