NR-8 establishes minimum technical requirements for buildings to regulate workplace safety and health, in accordance with the Brazilian Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT). Originally issued in 1978, it underwent a major revision in 1983 and minor updates in 2001 and 2011. The 1983 revision aimed to adapt regulations to technological advancements. Subsequent updates were discussed within the Tripartite Permanent Paritarian Commission (CTPP). In 2001, a change regarding floor-to-ceiling height was approved. In 2011, a proposal to amend various regulations, including NR-8, was approved, resulting in an alteration to item 8.3.6.
