Annex 8 of NR15 – Vibration

Summary:
1. Objectives
2. Characterization and classification of unhealthy activities

1. Objectives

1.1 To set criteria to define the unhealthy working conditions resulting from occupational exposure to the Hand-Arm Vibration (HAV) and Whole-Body Vibration (WBV).

1.2 The technical procedures for the quantitative assessment of the HAV and WBV are those set out in the Occupational Hygiene Standards of FUNDACENTRO.

2. Characterization and classification of unhealthy activities

2.1 Any condition is considered unhealthy if the daily occupational exposure limits for the HAV exceed the value of acceleration resulting from the normalized exposure of 5m/s2.

2.2 Any condition is considered unhealthy if the daily occupational exposure limits for the WBV exceed:

a) value of acceleration resulting from the normalized exposure of 1,1m/s2
b) vibration dose value (VDV) of 21,0 m/s1,75.

2.2.1 For the purposes of exposure characterization, the employer shall prove the assessment of two parameters described above.

2.3 The occupational exposure to the HAV and WBV above the exposure limits shall be considered unhealthy in medium degree.

2.4 The quantitative assessment shall be representative of the exposure, covering organizational and environmental aspects that involve the workers in the course of their duties.

2.5 The characterization of exposure shall be subject to a technical report that includes at least the following:

a) Objective and data on which the procedures were developed;
b) Description and result of the preliminary exposure assessment performed in accordance with item 3 of Annex 1 of NR9.
c)  Methodology and criteria adopted, including the characterization of exposure and sampling;
d) Instruments used, as well as the records of calibration certificates;
e) Obtained data and interpretations;
f) Specific circumstances that involved the evaluation;
g) Description of any available preventive and corrective measures and indication of necessary measures, as well as proof on their effectiveness;
h) Conclusion.
